About

Random Acts of Karma is a wife and husband team, Carolyn and David, who create one-of-a-kind jewelry.

Many, many moons ago, David (and their daughter) gifted Carolyn a how-to-bead book and some pretty stone beads for Mother’s Day.  Carolyn turned the beads into a necklace and earrings and bracelet.  Then Carolyn went shopping for more beads.  And then made more necklaces and earrings and bracelets.  (And then more shopping and more making and you get the idea.)

Fast forward a few years to 2011…  David and Carolyn got involved with SCARAB, a local role-playing and board-gaming convention.  Carolyn drilled holes in some of the convention’s custom-made dice and , lo, SCARAB Bling was born.

Carolyn had a small table and sold SCARAB Bling at the back of the role-playing/board-gaming room.  Her SCARAB family supported and encouraged her and she expanded her inventory, reinvesting her earnings into more beads and more tools.  After a request for more “guy” stuff, Carolyn convinced David to use his leather-working skills to create leather cuffs (and then key fobs) (and now, dice bags!).  More requests led to fandom-based charms and pendants and “Design a Necklace” was born.

What started as a single table with dice-themed jewelry expanded into a full-fledged vendor booth and an Etsy shop and an invitation to another convention (Electric City ComiCon) and an invitation to a holiday market (St. Nicholas Festival).  At the moment, Karma does three or four events a year.

If you’ve visited our booth at an event, you might have noticed that we don’t do discounts at the end of the day.  If you’ve visited us at multiple events, you might have noticed that our prices are consistent, no matter the venue.  When we create something, we determine a reasonable selling price.  We don’t inflate the price so we can offer a discount later in the day.  We don’t charge more, just because we think we can get away with it.  And we don’t sell wholesale.  We think our customers–our patrons–deserve the best price we can afford.  So that is what we charge.  No gimmicks.

And, if you’ve visited our booth at multiple events, you might have noticed that almost all of our hand-crafted jewelry is one-of-a-kind.  We search high and low, looking for unusual beads and components so we can make pieces as unique as our patrons.  (Carolyn does admit to making several vampire chokers, though.  They are just that fun.)  Carolyn also does bespoke pieces.

We hope you’ll come visit our booth at an upcoming event!
